Beijing is colored by green, 26 new parks in 2021

Big projects are in progress in Beijing to make one of the most polluted metropolises in the world more green and sustainable. The news comes from the international edition of the daily newspaper “China Daily”, which reports the declarations of Deng Naiping, director of Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau. In the Chinese capital there are plans to create 26 parks by 2021, in order to improve the urban ecological environment. The newly built parks will be located in the districts of Fengtai, Haidian and Shunyi, thus leading the coverage of parks and green areas within a range of 500 metres from any building up to 87% all over the city. It is also expected that per capita area of parks and green spaces will grow up to 16.6 square meters. Four urban forests and a series of mini parks and small green areas are also planned to be built. This year, natural walking paths and gyms for a total of 100 kilometres will also be created for Beijing residents. Therefore, by 2021, a total of 10,667 hectares of forest and 400 hectares of urban green areas will be added in Beijing. The capital’s forest cover rate and the green space rate in urban areas will reach respectively 44,6% and 49%.
