A
synergy between the Municipality and two big companies as sponsors will make the City of
Turin greener. The Municipality of
Turin, RINA, multinational company that
provides for specialist support to market players engaged in renewal processes,
and Arbolia, benefit company of Snam
and Fondazione CDP for urban reforestation,
have signed a sponsorship contract to create a
forest of over 2,100 plants in Sangone Park,
Mirafiore Sud District.
Close to the Bela
Rosin Mausoleum, this area of over 2 hectares will be home for 13 different species of native
plants (including black poplar, ashwood, hackberry, linden, maple, viburnum, elderberry) that will allow, operatively,
the absorption of over 100 tonnes of CO2 and 400 kg
of PM10 a year.
The agreement signed with the
Municipality establishes that, thanks to the support of RINA, Arbolia will
realize the urban forest of trees and shrubs and will take care of the
forest maintenance for the first two years. The
planting activities have already begun and will end within April.
“To implement the
green heritage of our City with urban forestation solutions, also thanks to
partner like RINA and Arbolia, allows us to think about a development model more sustainable and more resilient –
the Major of Turin Chiara Appendino pointed out presenting the project to the
press - with a strategy for the strengthening
of ecosystem services generated by the territory and benefits in terms of
mitigating the effects of climate change”.
“In
recent years the Municipal Administration
started and carried out numerous interventions to increase the number and the
quality of the arboreal heritage of the City – Green Councillor for the City of
Turin Alberto Unia points out - . The intervention planned for the Sangone
Park, result of the convention with RINA and
Arbolia, will bring the number of new
trees planted for the campaign of urban reforestation of the City to about 35,000, with
undoubted benefits for the environment and the whole community”.
The President and CEO of RINA, Ugo
Salerno, said: “The community and environment well-being reflects on the one of the companies that are part of it. Therefore, it is necessary that the latter took responsibility for
contributing to the reduction of emissions. The nature of RINA’s activities is already closely connected with the protection of people and planet
and this project with the Municipality of Turin and Arbolia fits into
our strategy on ESG
and our path towards carbon neutrality previewed for 2023”.
“The start of the planting project
marks an important stage in the activities that Arbolia carries out in synergy with the public administrations and local companies – the
President of Arbolia Mario Vitale said - . Our common mission will be to
contribute in a concrete way for combating
climate change and for the improvement of air quality for the benefit of
citizens and residents. Every day in Arbolia we feel it
is our duty to generate dynamics of sustainable
growth, which may have a significant and measurable impact on the environment”
