Italian event of the LIFE VEG-GAP project, Wednesday, April 20th, 2022
in Rome: Demonstrative Day was held at the historic headquarters of Italian
Geographical Society. The meeting took place in presence and involved, in
addition to project partners, stakeholders of the capital.
The event
was an opportunity to make known the results of this European project on the
study of urban greenery and the impact on meteorology and air quality that
involved research bodies and local administrations.
The day,
stimulated an interesting debate on the present and the future of green in our
cities in order to improve the provision of ecosystem services.
The
participants stressed the need to increase culture and awareness of trees among
citizens and policy makers and to enhance the experience of environmental
volunteering, while creating, at the same time, more knowledge about the care
that trees require once planted.
It has
also been highlighted that the theme of improving climate and air in the city,
must be linked not only to the increase of trees but also to policies to reduce
pollution-related emissions.
The main
speakers were: Silvano Fares of CNR, Mihaela Mircea of ENEA, Valeria Stacchini
of MCBO, Marco Marchetti of AlberItalia foundation, Nicola Pepe and Sandro
Finardi of ARIANET, Giuseppe Cremona and Gaia Righini of ENEA, Alessandro
Aliverani of CREA and Stefania Pasetti of MEEO.
